A half-century-old family business in Los Angeles, Christy's is a veritable mainstay of the film and tv production industry. Always ahead of the curve with new post production technologies, they are also one of the last remaining producers and sellers of analog film supplies. Family-owned and family run, Christy's exudes family vibes and requires a brand expression as chummy and easygoing as they are.

brand identity

To communicate precisely who they are and what they do we had to solve the riddle of how to reconcile Christy's technical authority with its distinctively family-like ethos.

The Christy's logo has seen many iterations, each with an aesthetic representative of the decade in which it was created. None, however, communicated the sincerity of their team, their deep expertise, and long history in the industry. A classic, signature style moniker complete with an established date does all of the above.

And of course retro is always cool, so limited edition swag is a must-have.

When you're with family, you should feel like you're home—and nothing about the Christy's common spaces 'felt like home'. Their headquarters were poorly utilized and sparsely decorated.

This had a noticeable affect on morale. Not only were the Christy's crew reluctant to invite prospective clients to visit, but their employees displayed a laissez-faire attitude that was not good for business.

Cozy couches, family photos, and lots of thoughtful details resulted in a complete transformation of their building. Yes, we also had to deep clean their kitchen (*wink wink*).

Hard to resist the urge to couch-surf the Christy's house now.

When your office interiors broadcast your brand, but your website doesn't, you have a big problem. Taking inspiration from the highly personal and welcoming Christy's spaces we had created, we designed a system of picture frames, window frames, and signs for their brand new, badass digital real estate.

A tech-forward company like Christy's has to dominate with its digital storytelling. So we illustrated their story and embedded it into the website's homepage navigation experience. As painstaking as it was for us to create each original line illustration, the finished product was worth it. The Christy's crew like it so much they requested we remix it into a standalone, looping video.
